I remember my first Luau. I was in Hawaii and it was an event hosted by locals for the military stationed there. It was just as you could imagine. Vibrant linens, tiki torches lining the paths and dining areas, bars with exciting drinks that had probably more fruit in them than beverage and of course, at the center of it all, there was a roasted pig. Decorated with palm leaves and hibiscus flowers. 

Not only was everything visually appealing but the smells and then the taste. I never thought I would have that same experience again. That was until I started working for Rocklands. While we can’t transport everyone to Hawaii, there’s something about the scent of roasted pig drifting over a backyard that makes you forget you’re just a Metro ride away from the Capitol. 

As the DC summer cranks up, we’ve noticed one theme topping every party-planner’s wish list: the backyard Luau.

There she worked with the team to create events: from intimate backyard gatherings to high-profile political fundraisers. Though life has taken her from DC to Japan, to New Mexico, Tennessee and now to Oklahoma, where she lives with her husband Michael, son Jackson, and pup Francis, you’ll still find bottles of Rocklands Barbecue Sauce making their way to her doorstep.
