If you stepped through our doors on a hot July day in 1990, you remember: the smoke, the sauce, the little rush of excitement as you ordered your first taste of Rocklands.
Maybe you were one of the first to stand in line in that tiny original spot on Wisconsin Ave; spittoons lining the room, handwritten chalkboard menu, ready to support the newest, locally owned and operated joint.
Or maybe you’re part of the newest generation of Rocklands fans, stopping by to grab weeknight dinners with us or snagging ribs and chopped pork for a birthday party on the patio.
Whoever you are, you’re the reason we’re here.

35 Years of Good Food and Good Company
Thirty-five years. That’s a generation and a half and an awful lot of barbeque. We’re talking weddings, retirements, graduations, spontaneous Wednesday-night family feasts, backyard debates about “best sauce,” and memories that taste a little like smoke and a lot like home. Some of you brought tiny kids who now tower over the counter; some of you have been bringing friends since the days when you would pay cash for a sandwich and the most high-tech thing in the building was the cash register.
We’re still the Rocklands you remember, just a little bigger these days. Our original spot is as busy as ever, and now we’ve got two more locations plus a dedicated home base for our booming catering crew.
“Chopped Pork” still means what it always has (and yes, people still fight over the jalapeño cornbread). We’ve rolled out food trucks, staked out a permanent spot at Nationals Stadium, and upgraded our stores with greener features, all without messing with that smoky flavor our customers love. Take a walk down memory lane with our history timeline.

To the People Who Helped Us Make It 35 Years
So here’s the most important thing we’ll ever say: Thank you.
You kept us afloat when times were hard. You celebrated with us when times were good. You taught us that barbeque is just a meal until you share it with neighbors, friends, and partners who care. Rocklands has never been about one person or one family. It’s about you, our regulars, our new fans, the folks who keep saying “yes” to slow-cooked meat and a seat at the table.
This year, for our 35th anniversary, we’re looking back —and we’re looking ahead, too.
Consider this your official invitation. All year, we’ll be celebrating you. Because after 35 years, we know exactly what has kept Rocklands cooking: it’s our people and this community we share.
So here’s to another 35. Stay tuned, stay hungry, and thank you for making Rocklands, not just a restaurant, but a home.
